Spain’s Prime Minister Dissolves Catalonia’s Parliament And Announces Elections For December 21

The Spanish government has dissolved Catalonia’s parliament and executive and sacked the director-general of the Catalan police, Pere Soler. The government has also called for elections on December 21.

Today the Catalan parliament voted to declare independence from Spain. The Spanish Senate approved the activation of Article 155, which give the central government in Madrid the authority to restore the constitutional order by taking over powers exercised by the Catalan authorities.
